To know about Bishop you first of all have to know about Charisma, my first horse because they are both so different.
I first saw Cari when she was 1/2 hour old and I fell in love with her right away. She was a very pretty little chestnut mare with a blond mane and tail, which came from her Palomino background. Her breeding was 1/2 Canadien and 1/4 Hackney and 1/4 American Saddle Horse.
I knew her for all of her 26 years and she was very healthy for most of that time.

In the summer of 1994, Walter called me over one day and said - have a look at that young colt over there, he will be your next horse.
Then the summer and fall passed and Bishop was broken. He progressed in his lessons. Then Amy was riding him and in the winter of 1995 I had my first ride on Bishop. He felt very different after riding a little mare for so long. In April of that year he became mine and I had Cari put down - a sad time - but I felt better having a new young horse.

I chose Cari without really knowing what I was getting into with a horse with her kind of breeding and temperament. “That mare has lots of zip!” is what the fellow I bought her from told me.
Bishop was chosen for me and his personality is just the opposite of Cari - easy going and relaxed. Walter certainly knew what I needed - a quieter horse! I will always be grateful for him thinking of me.
Such a big baby - I tell my non-riding friends and Bishop certainly is that!

Over the past 8 years our relationship has evolved. I fell off a lot the first winter I had him but he still spooks easily. He is easygoing and sometimes even lazy but he can move when he wants to!
He is very gentle and easy going in the stall and for the blacksmith which is just as well because he sees a lot of him as he is always taking a shoe off. His encounters with the vet are more of a challenge - he really does not like Lynn at all!

A horse of a mixed personality - I would say.
A good friend.
I enjoy riding him as I do!
